Trimming

Keep only the parts of a recording you want. Your original is never changed.

Open a walkthrough project and go to the "Editor" tab. Its heading is "Trim the recording".

How trimming works here

You list the parts to keep, in order, and everything else is left out. Each part has "Starts at (seconds)" and "Ends at (seconds)". A strip under the player shows the parts across the length of the recording, with how much they keep in all.

  1. Play the recording to where the first part should begin, pause, and press the "Use" button beside "Starts at". The button shows the time the player is at, such as "Use 0:12". Do the same for "Ends at". You can also type the seconds.
  2. Press "Add a part" for each further part you want to keep. A new part starts where the one before it ended. The play button beside a part plays it from its start, and the bin button removes it.
  3. Press "Save trim plan" to keep the list for later, or "Save and render" to make the trimmed video now.

Parts must run in time order and must not overlap. A part that starts before the one above it ends is marked straight away: "This part starts before part 1 ends. Keep the parts in order." It is left off the strip until you fix it.

Your original is safe

Rendering makes a new video and leaves the source alone. When rendering starts the app confirms it: "Rendering started. The source recording is preserved." You can change the plan and render again as often as you like.

An MP4 to use elsewhere

On the Overview tab, "Create MP4 preview" makes an MP4 copy of the recording, which plays in more places than the format a browser records in.

If a render fails

The project offers "Retry render".

If you leave the project before saving, the app asks first: "Discard unsaved edits?"

In the demo

The demo saves your trim plan and does not render: "Video rendering requires a Vistralo cloud workspace."
