Microphone not found

What to do when Vistralo cannot use your microphone, or your voice is missing from a recording.

These messages can appear only when "Record my voice" is on. If you do not need your voice, turn that switch off and record without it.

"Microphone access was not allowed."

The full message is: "Microphone access was not allowed. Allow the microphone for this site in the address bar, or turn off Record my voice."

  1. Click the icon at the left of the address bar, where the browser shows this site's permissions.
  2. Set the microphone to allowed.
  3. Reload the page and start again.

On a Mac, the browser itself also needs permission: System Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone.

"No microphone was available."

The browser found no microphone to use.

  • Check that one is plugged in or paired, and switched on.
  • Check that it is the input chosen in your computer's sound settings.
  • Close other applications that may be holding it, such as a call that is still open.

"The microphone stopped."

"The rest of this recording may not include your voice." The microphone was unplugged, lost its connection or was taken by another application part-way through. The picture carries on recording. Stop, check the microphone, and record that part again if the voice matters.

Your voice is too quiet or missing

The recording controls show a small level meter beside the timer when the microphone is on. If it does not move when you speak, the wrong input is selected or it is muted. Fix that before you start, because a silent take cannot be repaired afterwards.

Sound from the tab is missing

With "Record my voice" on, the sound of the tab you are sharing is left out on purpose.
