Screen sharing was not allowed

Why Vistralo says screen sharing was not allowed or stopped before recording started, and how to fix each.

"Screen sharing was not allowed. Choose what to record to try again."

The browser, or the operating system, refused to share the screen.

  1. Press "Choose what to record" and pick a tab, window or screen in the dialog. Closing the dialog counts as a refusal.
  2. On a Mac, the browser needs permission to record the screen. Open System Settings, go to Privacy and Security, then Screen Recording, and switch it on for your browser. Quit the browser fully and open it again.
  3. On a work computer, screen capture may be switched off by your organisation. Ask whoever manages the computer.

"Screen sharing stopped before recording started. Choose what to record to try again."

Sharing began and ended before the count finished. This happens when you press the browser's stop button or close the tab or window you were sharing. Choose a source again and leave it open.

"Screen recording is unavailable in this browser."

This browser cannot capture the screen. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer. See Supported browsers.

"No video was captured. Choose a screen or window and try again."

The recording ended with nothing in it. Start again, and if you shared a window, make sure it was visible and not minimised.

The dialog never appears

A page may open the share dialog only as a direct result of your click. If it does not appear, press "Choose what to record" in the form. If it still does not, reload the page.
