Vistralo/Help/Recording

Pausing and stopping

What the recording controls do: the count of three, Pause, Start over, Discard and Stop.

The count

Before the first frame, the controls show "Recording starts in 3" and count down, with a "Cancel" button. Escape cancels too. Either one takes you back to the form with nothing recorded.

The tab's title counts down as well and then reads "Recording · Vistralo", and its icon becomes a coloured dot, so you can tell from any tab that a recording is live.

During a take

The controls show the time elapsed and four buttons.

  • "Pause" holds the recording. The button becomes "Resume" and the tab title reads "Paused · Vistralo".
  • "Start over" throws the take away and counts in again on the same tab, window or screen. It asks first: "Start over? This take is not kept."
  • "Discard" throws the take away and closes the recorder. It asks first: "Discard this take? Nothing is saved."
  • "Stop" ends the recording and saves it.

Both questions keep recording while you decide, and "Keep recording" is the answer already selected.

After Stop

You see "Saving a browser recovery copy…", then the recording is saved and uploaded and its project opens with the share link offered first. If you did not type a name, the project is named for what it is and when it was made, for example "Walkthrough," followed by the date and time. If you gave a website address it is named after the site.

Closing the recorder mid-take

Pressing Escape while a recording is live does not end it. The app says "Stop the recording before closing. Your recording will be saved for recovery."
